Once we know your arrival time we can arrange a Boat Captain to pick up from the Airport jetty - the cost is approx 2,000 KES (£11) and bring you to Mangrove House on Manda Island. You will be looked after by family staff and can eat fresh food daily at the Guesthouse by buying groceries in advance. Fresh fish is available from the previous nights’ catch. Breakfast is included and guests pay in advance for the groceries plus boat transport to Lamu (approx 1500/-) for any other meals. There is a 700K/- kitchen service charge for meals (per 2 people).
Manda Island has no gas, electricity or ground water. Our guesthouse runs on solar power which can power mobile phones, computers, wifi, lights and fans. Please be aware that there is not enough power for kettles, non-solar fridges, air conditioners or hairdryers. We have recently upgraded our power but If it is cloudy there may be less electricity available and so we ask for your patience if the sun doesn’t shine all day! We do have a generator for emergencies.
Sunset sails, visits to the historical sites and fresh food market in Lamu town, tours round the island and snorkelling or fishing trips can all be arranged with the local Swahili boat owners. Yoga and massage can also be arranged on the island.
