We have 2 Guest rooms - the Acacia Room and the Makuti Room - which can accommodate up to 2 adults per room per night.
Or you can book the Whole Guesthouse for up to 4 guests. Children over 13 years old are welcome. Please note that the Makuti Room upstairs has open windows.

Acacia Room (Downstairs) - Double King Bedroom - max 2 adults (adults only)
The Swahili style Acacia room has a generous King Size bed - suitable for a couple or close friends or family - with overhead fan and mosquito net with a beautiful ensuite bathroom with shower, sink and toilet - there is desk, Wi-fi and electricity sockets by the bed. The room gives onto a private terrace looking towards the ocean for dining and relaxing
Makuti Room (Upstairs) -Twin Room - max 2 guests (children over 10 years)
The Makuti room is upstairs - a relaxing open room with 2 antique Swahili beds - 4ft & 4ft 5ins wide - suitable for couples, 2 friends or single guests - there is an overhead fan over the larger bed - with mosquito nets and ensuite bathroom with shower, sink and toilet - there is a desk, Wi-fi and electricity sockets by the bed. The room is open to the sea breeze under a beautiful makuti thatch roof. You will have the use of terrace facing directly onto the beach for sunbathing and dining
Entire Guest House (2 floors - Double & Twin Room - max 4 guests (Max 2 children over 10 years)
Guests will have the Entire Guesthouse and surrounding areas to themselves. The Guesthouse can accommodate up to 4 guests - either 4 adults or 2 adults & children, or 3 adults and 1 child sharing - Children over 10 years are welcome but please be aware the windows are open upstairs. Also please be aware that stone steps have to be climbed for access to the upstairs Makuti Room.
Amenities
Airport Transfers - Mangrove House is situated on Manda Island and all airport transfers are by boat from Lamu airport - the cost is usually 2,000 KES approx £12 one way and can be arranged by the House Manager in advance and paid for by guests directly to the Boat Captain. Please let us know the time of your flight arrival.
Staff Service - room service, alarm calls, luggage storage, arrangement of sightseeing trips, sailing, fishing, massage, yoga etc
Meals - We are now including breakfast in our booking price. Other meals can be requested but please be aware that we offer home cooking and are not a restaurant so we do not keep any food on site. All meals are made from local ingredients purchased in Lamu town and from local fishermen. Guests are requested to pay for groceries and drinks and for associated boat transport from Lamu in advance. (The boat cost is normally between 1200 -1500 KES) A 700 KES charge for lunch and supper per 2 guests will be charged for the use of the kitchen. As Manda is an island only accessible by boat and we buy only buy fresh groceries, any meal and drinks requirements should be discussed in advance with the House Manager to ensure that quantities and transport costs are agreed prior to purchase.
Shower Gel - we are now providing Cinnebar Green organic shower gel for our guests
Laundry - organised by House Manager for an additional fee
Dressing Gowns - these are provided for stays of 5 nights or more
Mosquito coils - provided
No smoking policy No smoking inside the guest house, outside no problem.
Zero Tolerance Policy - Drugs are not permitted anywhere on the premises
Utilities - All electricity is supplied by inbuilt solar power - this can charge phones and computers etc but is not suitable for hair dryers or kettles.
Fans - Please note there is no A/C in our rooms - we have fans and open windows
All Water comes from local rainfall so please use considerately as there is very little rain in the area
Plastic & Rubbish Disposal Single use Plastic bags are no longer permitted in Kenya - please use reusable non-plastic bags and leave as little waste as possible behind. We will dispose of any rubbish responsibly through our Manda Island rubbish Cooperative which we all support but prefer as few plastic containers as possible to be left behind!
If you see rubbish on the beach please dipose of in the baskets provided on the beach or bring it to the house and we will dispose of it with our other waste.
Respect for our Staff - we expect guests to treat our staff with respect and politeness. All problems can solved, but often Manda island life needs more patience as we rely on solar power and rain for all our utilities.
